Breast-feeding and caloric intake
We know that the benefits of breastfeeding are huge for both the new born and mother.
During lactation the energy requirements of the female body increase gradually as the body produces more milk to satisfy the nutritional needs of the fast-growing organization of the newborn. Logically, the appetite at this stage is increasing.
If a woman during lactation does not increase the caloric intake, the quality and quantity of breast milk produced will not be affected, since nature provides, but she will start to feel very tired and subdued.
So the increase of the pregnant woman`s caloric intake during lactation is important mainly for her own organization. During feeding, substances that pass into the milk, such as caffeine and alcohol, should be avoided.
